As we know, CBD can be used to treat many problems. The topical creams can be used to treat a number of medical issues such as chronic pain and inflammation, so it makes reasonable sense that people have started adding it to skincare products. As well as being anti-inflammatory it also has strong antioxidant properties and can be used to treat dryness and free radical damage.
Raw Oil
There are the highest density of CBD receptors in the skin than in any other organ of the body so adding it into your daily skincare routine could be a great benefit for anyone. The best and most direct way to give your skin all the benefits of CBD is to topically apply broad-spectrum CBD oil. It’s a non-comedogenic oil which means it doesn’t clog up your pores so applying it in its raw form will give your skin the maximum benefit.
Moisturisers
There are lots of moisturisers on the market which contain CBD, and it can be used to sooth irritated skin, if you have had an allergic reaction to something, or to soothe eczema and dried skin. Whilst there is no evidence it can be used to treat eczema at the source, CBD has been proven to have significant soothing and “anti-itching” effects, as well as being extremely moisturising due it’s richness in fatty acids.
Spot Treatments
In 2014, a study looked at the effects of CBD on human sebocytes (the skin cells that create sebum) and they found that the CBD prevented the cells from over-producing sebum, which is one of the major problems in oily acne-prone skin. They also found that the CBD triggered an anti-inflammatory reaction in the skin cells by preventing cytokines from activating – which can trigger acne. Therefore it may be able to help prevent further breakouts from happening. Another study in 2016 found that the antibacterial and antifungal effects which can help to reduce infections in the skin, which could be useful in a spot treatment.
For many people, a night-time skin care routine is a calming and therapeutic experience. A little bit of me-time, for which CBD could help to enhance that calming effect and help people unwind before they go to bed. There are even CBD bath-bombs now to help people unwind, so there really is a bit of something for everyone!
